Yesterday, as the crowds cheered and the champagne flowed, favourite Admire Rakti collapsed and died in his stall from a suspected massive heart attack or internal bleeding. Later, Araldo was euthanised after becoming frightened and crashing through a gate, shattering a bone in his leg. We featured this article in Living Local’s Summer 2013 edition, after last year’s Melbourne Cup runner, Verema, was euthanised after falling during the race.
