Innovative Students-Teenpreneauurrss!!“... don’t give up and never stop trying ...”HOW HAVE YOUR EXPERIENCES AT SCHOOL HELPED YOU?My school teaches a lot more than just Math and English. At school, I have learnt about myself and what type of person I am. I make mistakes and I learn from them. School has definitely shaped me and taught me who I am. I have made friendships that I will keep for the rest of my life.TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR PROJECT/PROJECTS?My initial goal was to sew eight dog coats and donate them to the RSPCA. It sounds so simple. It wasn’t. My first step was emailing the RSPCA. I was nervous they were going to turn me down, but they couldn’t have been more friendly and willing. I drew the patterns and started cutting out the materials and assembling the coats. I spent at least one full day a week on my passion project. The coats were so well receivedby people who saw them, that I’ve received orders!WHERE HAS YOUR MOTIVATION COME FROM?The idea came from my friends and family, especially my mum, but the motivation came frommy love for animals. I have always loved animals from a very young age. My first pet was a bird named Tweety when I was 5. I would like to be a vet when I’m older.WHAT MINDSETS HAVE HELPED YOUR SUCCESS AND TO CONQUER DOUBT/FEAR?I think being opened mindedand resilient is really important. Having a positive mindset was definitely one of the reasons I completed my project to the standard that I did. I just kept thinking, “you have started this, it is your responsibility to finish it.” I have had trouble in the past with self-doubt and I’m now definitely more confident in myself.WHO DO YOU ADMIRE?I really admire my mum as she is really kind and thoughtful, and always thinks of others before herself. She has really helped me with my project; I wouldn’t have finished it without her.I also admire my teacher Mrs Sloane, who is a really great teacher and is one of the main reasons I am thriving at school. Also my friend Lexi is a really strong personality and is always there for me. Some famous people I admire are Bethany Hamilton and J.K Rowling.ADVICE FOR OTHER STUDENTS?If you find school work – or anything in general – challenging, don’t give up and never stop trying. Always aim high and keep trying no matter what. Be confident in yourself and don’t let others put you down. If you believe, you can do anything.www.livinglocalguide.com.au“Dream, Inspire, Grow”LIVING LOCAL SPRING 2016 35NAME: Claire MinettiAGE/YEAR: 12 years old, Year 6 SCHOOL: Roseville College
